WHO WE ARE

Skye & Lochalsh Young Carers was established in 2000 to provide support to young carers from across the region.

Our service is managed by The Skye & Lochalsh Community Care Forum SCIO Management Committee. The SLCCF was established in 1991 and is recognised as a Charity in Scotland by the Inland Revenue Scottish Charity No: SC 027909.

In 1999, in direct response to a young carer asking what support was available for young carers, and with no support structures identified, the SLCCF applied for and received a small research grant from the Princess Royal Trust for Carers. As a direct result of this research the Skye & Lochalsh Young Carers service (S&LYC) was set up in 2000 to develop young carers support and enable them to come together to help combat the social isolation they may experience.

Skye & Lochalsh Young Carers mission is to make a positive difference in the lives and futures of young carers through regular support groups, respite breaks, reducing social isolation, advocacy, training, one to one as well as bereavement support as required.
