Skye & Lochalsh Young Carers was established in 2000 to provide support to young carers from across the region.

Our service is managed by The Skye & Lochalsh Community Care Forum SCIO Management Committee. The SLCCF was established in 1991 and is recognised as a Charity in Scotland by the Inland Revenue Scottish Charity No: SC 027909.

In 1999, in direct response to a young carer asking what support was available for young carers, and with no support structures identified, the SLCCF applied for and received a small research grant from the Princess Royal Trust for Carers. As a direct result of this research the Skye & Lochalsh Young Carers service (S&LYC) was set up in 2000 to develop young carers support and enable them to come together to help combat the social isolation they may experience.

Skye & Lochalsh Young Carers mission is to make a positive difference in the lives and futures of young carers through regular support groups, respite, reducing social isolation, advocacy, training and one to one and bereavement support as required.
